Lots of Brits love tuning into the soaps, but Coronation Street fans are threating to boycott the ITV show if one major character is killed off. It comes after viewers witnessed super tense scenes unfold in Monday (May 19) night’s episode, and they fear what could be in store next. The storyline centres around Kit Green, as little was known about the detective sergeant when he arrived in Weatherfield last year, aside from the fact that he’s the long-lost biological son of Bernie Winter. Then, earlier this year, viewers were introduced to new couple Mick and Lou Michaelis, and it was implied they have a connection to Kit that could expose the story of his past.
Recently fans of the soap got to see a flashback episode, which revealed that Mick and Kit were good friends when they were teenagers. However, things took a turn for the worse when a shopkeeper made derogatory comments about Mick’s troubled family background.
Even though he was willing to ignore the remarks, it made Kit very emotional and he suggested they should take revenge. Together with Mick, he lit fireworks and put them through the letterbox of the store but, what he didn’t know was, someone else was inside.
Kit was horrified when he could hear the screams, as the shopkeeper’s wife was trapped. When the shopkeeper returned home, he instantly blamed Mick, which gave Kit some time to run.
Essentially, he allowed his mate to take the blame and face prison time after the victim suffered third-degree burns. Now, as Mick plots to take revenge, it seems he won’t let anyone get in his way.
In Monday night’s episode he was seen brutally attacking the much-loved PC Craig Tinker as his emotions spiralled. Craig was left on the side of the road after being hit with a bat.
Now, Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker in the soap, has shared a snap bidding farewell to the cobbles. He posted a picture alongside the caption: “One last shift mate.”
However, fans were quick to respond saying they don’t want him to leave. In fact, they’re willing to “switch off” if his character dies.
One said: “Craig has to wake up and then decide he’s going to live with his mum and then come back in a couple of years.”
Another added: “I can’t watch it. I honestly won’t be able to watch Corrie anymore. I will watch what you’ll be in next.”
A third replied: “Has it happened. I decided not to watch all week. I didn’t want to see Craig get beat up and die.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “I’m sure I won’t be the only one who will be giving up on Corrie soon. Big and sad mistake getting rid of you and others.
“You’ve always been a pleasure to watch and likeable from day one. Best of luck for the future Colson!”
Some did praise the performances in the episode though, with one writing: “Oh no not our Craigy. Incredible performance from Colson @colsonjsmith and Jay @jaylayts. I can’t wait to watch Wednesday night’s episode.”
Another added: “Joe Layton was brilliant in this episode. What a nasty piece of work that Mick is. Poor Lou, poor Tinks.”

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Colson, 26, would be leaving the cobbles, though it isn’t quite clear how he will exit yet. Viewers will have to wait and see if he survives, or whether he’ll die following Mick’s brutal attack.
Back in January, the actor wrote on Instagram: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the cobbles is to come to end in 2025. I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home.
“I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.”
