Coronation Street’s Christmas Day Shocker: Evening Slot Only for Festive Drama! – and fans will be disappointed

Coronation Street has confirmed a major change for its Christmas Day episode and fans won't be happy about it.

Coronation Street has announced a significant alteration to its Christmas Day episode.

The beloved soap, marking 64 years on air this year, is a Christmas staple for many viewers who have witnessed countless festive dramas unfold over the years

From shocking deaths and cancer revelations to grand stunts and unexpected comebacks, Christmas in Weatherfield is seldom peaceful. This year will be no exception, according to new boss Kate Brooks.

In an interview with Plymouth Live, Kate revealed that this year’s Christmas episode is “very fun” and “really lively”, but cautioned that “lots of bombshells are dropped”. The episode also revolves around Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) potential wedding to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson), but Kate teased: “Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot tell anything.”

Earlier this year, Helen, who plays Gail, confirmed her departure from the soap after 50 years, with her final scenes set to air during the holiday season. But it wouldn’t be a Corrie Christmas without some drama.

Kate added: “There are lots of betrayals and lots of secrets are exposed.” However, there is one major change on the horizon – and fans might not be thrilled about it.

Soap enthusiasts who have been enjoying early morning viewings of Coronation Street and Emmerdale on ITVX at 7am will face a change in routine this Christmas.

The much-anticipated Christmas Day episode of Corrie won’t be available first thing in the morning but will instead keep to its traditional evening slot on ITV1.

She elaborated on the need for some light-hearted relief: “We are all in need of a bit of escapism at the minute. And we’ve had quite a dark and brilliant, few months on the cobbles. Christmas for us, is all about us trying to tap into the family dynamics of the Platts, what makes people tick.”
