Coronation Street fans have been left stunned after discovering Bernie Winter star, Jane Hazlegrove, appeared on the soap years ago. Bernie made her debut on the cobbles in 2019, rocking up to the street as the mum of Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), Paul (Peter Ash) and Kit (Jacob Roberts).
And it’s fair to say she has quickly become a firm favourite with viewers. Bernie has also had her fair share of big storylines over the years. From Paul’s battle with MND (motor neurone disease) to prison stints, Bernie’s time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.
So much so as recently, Paul sadly died. In emotional scenes that aired back in September, Paul took his final breath, surrounded by his loved ones, including Bernie.

Prior to her Corrie stint, Bernie actor Jane appeared in the likes of Dinnerladies, The Bill and Doctors. She also played Kathleen “Dixie” Dixon in the BBC medical drama Casualty from 2006 to 2016.
And it turns out she even appeared on Coronation Street years before finding fame as Bernie Winter. Fans have recently spotted Jane in an old episode of the soap – and have been left floored.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person shared a photo of Jane on the soap from the eighties. The post was captioned: “Jane Hazlegrove in Corrie (1985) playing as Sue Clayton.”

And fans soon shared their shock in the comments section, with one writing: “Aww my lord, she still looks the same.” A second chimed in and said: “Didn’t realise she is Bernie just watching Corrie from 1985.”
A third wrote: “Hasn’t changed at all.” Echoing their thoughts, another said: “I think she is quite a versatile actress as I have seen her in many different roles over the years and good in all of them.” A fifth penned: “She looks like Paul in the face, even down to the dimples.”

Away from the soap, Jane is loved-up with her doting soap star wife Isobel Middleton. Isobel has appeared in the likes of Emmerdale and EastEnders over the years.
The happy couple tied the knot back in 2015 and have been together for over 28 years. In 2019, the blonde beauty spoke about her relationship with the actress on Lorraine. She gushed: “She’s sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed.”
