Shayne Ward Makes His Grand Return to Soaps Alongside Real-Life Partner Sophie Austin

Exciting news for soap fans! Former Coronation Street star Shayne Ward is set to make his return to the world of soaps, this time with his real-life fiancée, Sophie Austin. Ward, best known for his role as Aidan Connor on Coronation Street, left the ITV soap in 2018 after three successful years. Since then, he’s taken on other projects, including a role on The Good Ship Murder.

Currently, Ward is captivating audiences on Strictly Come Dancing, where he’s showcasing his dance skills. However, soap enthusiasts can look forward to seeing him on their screens again, as he and Austin will appear together in an episode of Doctors, airing on Thursday, October 3rd. Ward will play the character Kenny Webb, while Austin, known for her role as Lindsey Butterfield on Hollyoaks, will portray Sandra, his ex-partner.

The episode, titled Shock Therapy, promises to be an emotional rollercoaster. It follows Kenny and Sandra as they navigate a tense day at the hospital, where they’re visiting their daughter Lucy. Sandra, however, restricts Kenny from seeing their child due to his struggles with anger issues. The storyline delves deep into Kenny’s battle to control his emotions, while also introducing interactions with his mother-in-law Melissa and another character, Zara.

Ward, who won the second series of The X Factor in 2005, has been keeping busy with his dance routines on Strictly, where he’s partnered with Nancy Xu. Responding to comments that he appeared overly confident on the show, Ward addressed fans, sharing that while he may seem calm and collected on camera, he’s actually quite nervous. “Strictly is amazing, and I love being part of it,” he said. “But despite the smile on TV, I’m just as nervous as anyone else. All I can do is work hard and listen to my amazing teacher, Nancy.”
