Coronation Street actor Joseph Wandera collapsed and died after taking a cocktail of drugs at a dance festival in Costa Rica, an inquest heard.

The promising star, 27, played a car buyer in the ITV soap. He passed away in January this year after having a seizure, an inquest heard.

Despite efforts to revive him, Joseph passed away in an apartment at the Tamarindo beach resort.

His mother, Claire Beatson, expressed her astonishment to Rochdale Coroners’ Court on Tuesday September 18 upon learning that Joseph had taken ecstasy and confessed to his girlfriend that he had ingested a mysterious drug blend known as ‘Pink Stuff’.

In February this year, coroner officer Kathy Dixon told the inquest: ‘While at a party, Joseph rang his girlfriend and explained that he did not feel well. He had lost sight in one eye and lost sensation in the left side of his body.’

She continued: ‘He contacted a friend who picked him up and took him back to their apartment. Joseph went to sleep on the sofa. A few hours later, the friend found Joseph on the sofa having a seizure.

His character was interested in buying Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) car, in a short role, which he proudly discussed online.

After his appearance, the actor wrote on Twitter: ‘Overwhelmed with the support …mad love for everyone that’s getting onto me & caught my eP. They’ll be more to come this year.’

Joseph also appeared in Scott & Bailey and Moving On.
