Coronation Street confirms who brings down Joel – and it’s not Swain or Dee Dee
Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) confessed her involvement in Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) early labour during tonight’s episode of Coronation Street.
Shortly after we first met Betsy, she blackmailed Joel (Calum Lill) into keeping the truth about him a secret for money. Joel used this to his advantage somewhat, as he managed to get Betsy to purchase labour inducing drugs in return for cash.
Not only did it keep Betsy quiet, but it decreased the chance of Joel being accused of buying the tablets.
In recent episodes though, Betsy’s guilt has increased due to Lauren’s son Frankie falling unwell.
The newcomer confessed to her involvement in Joel’s plan during a chat with mum DS Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla (Alison King) in tonight’s episode. Because of her determination to nail Joel and put him behind bars, Swain had no choice but to take her daughter to the police station for a statement.
Due to the fact Swain was able to get access to the phone call Betsy made to the medical company that gave her the pills, she could question Joel with enough confidence he’d be charged.
And it worked.
After Swain told Joel that he’d be charged, she told him that he’d be on bail but if those conditions were broken, he’d be straight behind bars.
It was a warning – and Joel got the message loud and clear.
Back at his flat, after Joel handed over his passport, he rushed to grab a bag and very nearly went on the run. He knew that the ramifications would be huge if he got caught though, so he chose to stay in Weatherfield.
In the hospital, Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) updated Lauren on the case.
These developments weren’t quite enough to destroy Joel – but it was certainly a step in the right direction.
Will he be behind bars soon?
