Coronation Street actress Harriet Bibby declares ‘love you’ to co-star in sweet post
Harriet Bibby has played Summer Spellman in Coronation Street since taking over from Matilda Freeman in 2020 – and now she’s declared her love in a sweet social media post
Coronation Street star Harriet Bibby told her co-star: “Love you!” as fans of the ITV soap were left swooning.
The actress, who has played Summer Spellman since taking over the role from Matilda Freeman in 2020, was emotional as she bade farewell to Peter Ash, best known for his role as Paul Foreman. Paul was killed off on Monday (September 9) after a heartbreaking battle with motor neurone disease.
In emotional scenes, Summer, Gemma and Bernie wept at Paul’s bedside as his husband Billy Mayhew rushed to be with him – but sadly missed telling Paul his last words as he had already passed.
Now Peter has shared a snap of his final script, which ends with the lines: “Billy flying down the corridor and into Paul’s room where the doctor is pronouncing Paul’s death. Billy screams out in anguish, realising he’s too late.
“He goes over to Paul and strokes his lifeless face, sobbing uncontrollably as Bernie, Summer and Gemma struggle to process what’s just happened. Their beloved Paul is gone.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Peter wrote: “Thank you so much for all your comments and messages regarding tonight’s episode. Paul’s story is over. However, many people are currently living their own MND story. Please consider supporting the MND community in any way you can.”
His co-stars jumped into the comments section to show Pete some love, with Harriet among the first to comment, writing: “Love you, Pete.”
Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton in the soap, echoed: “We are all so proud of you and everyone involved! Delivered with so much care, honesty and truthfulness. We miss you Pete.” His on-screen husband Daniel Brocklebank posted: “You’ve played a blinder my friend. You have no idea how much you’re missed.”
Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Paul’s mum Bernie, added: “I’m crying!!! You made me cry again Peter!! What a performance sweetheart… you are a joy to work with… an absolute pleasure to see every day. Sleeves up… in you go! And what a legacy! You have given such care to this MND story! Be proud kid, ‘cos we are!”
Also among the commenters was Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie. She penned: “It was so moving and you have been fabulous, as is everyone involved in this storyline, writers, crew and everyone.” Max Turner star Paddy Bever simply added a red heart emoji to the post, while other celebs like Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick and comedy icon Paul Chuckle shared their own thoughts and well wishes.
