Corrie's Martin Platt 'summoned to head office'

Coronation Street’s Sean Wilson left ITV viewers shocked after it was reported he had exited the popular soap opera. It has been said that the 59-year-old who played Martin Platt was “summoned to head office” before his final walk down the cobbles.

According to reports, Sean, who first starred on Corrie 20 years ago, has left for “personal reasons” after a rep confirmed the news earlier this week. Although just weeks ago he was posing with scripts and updating fans on what he was up to on set.

Sean was set to make a huge return nearly two decades after he had left. This was as part of his ex-wife Gail Platt’s exit as she leaves at the end of this year.

Helen Worth, who plays Gail, has been part of the Coronation Street family for half a century after joining back in 1974. The 73-year-old will retire this October.

Due to Sean suddenly departing from the show none of his scenes will be aired. This has sent bosses into meltdown after frantically creating a new plan for Gail.

The Sun reported that the cast and crew have not “offered” an “explanation” after he went in for a meeting with executives.

A source told the publication: ‘It has come as a complete and utter shock to everyone – and his ¬sudden exit has rocked everyone involved with Corrie.

“Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set.” They continued: “He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered.

Sean started out in Corrie when he was 39, and his character fathered Sarah and David Platt. He was part of the thrilling teenage pregnancy scandal, which saw her have a baby on her 13th birthday.

However, Martin and his new family emigrated to New Zealand in 2018 and he paid one final visit to Weatherfield.

He was last seen on the show before his departure to make peace with his son David, who was upset that his dad was leaving the country.
