EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street’s Lauren actress Cait Fitton ‘reveals’ who’ll take down Joel
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has revealed which character should spark Joel Deering's downfall, amid a twist involving her character Lauren Bolton on the ITV soap
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has teased Joel Deering’s downfall, and who will bring him down after the latest ITV soap twist.
On Wednesday night viewers saw Lauren Bolton was horrified as she continued to remain in hiding, only to be found by Dee-Dee Bailey and Bethany Platt. But the real horror came as Joel found her first and urged her to keep quiet about everything, with pregnant Lauren fainting in his arms.
Lauren was taken to hospital to be checked over, and Joel got her alone and asked her to lie that Nathan Curtis was the one behind her recent attack. He also encouraged her to tell the police she didn’t want to take things further, telling her he’d pay for a flat for her and the baby to live in.
It comes days after Lauren returned from the dead months on from the brutal attack, after months of claims she had been murdered. Joel wasn’t identified as the person grooming Lauren or the one who really attacked her until May, before her true fate was revealed in a recent episode.

Now, speaking exclusively to The Mirror Lauren actress Cait teased whether Lauren would get her justice, and be the one to take down Joel. She shared her hopes this would be the case, thinking it would give an important message.
She told us: “I think that will help with the story in [saying that] victims are not weak, victims of sexual exploitation and grooming are not weak, they are very strong people. For it to be Lauren would be the closure she needs, the justice she needs and being heard.
“Lauren has never been heard in her life. She represents so many girls out there who are not heard, not justified, not validated so I would love it to be Lauren who brings Joel down.”
She also revealed the storyline would lead to viewers seeing a change in Lauren. She explained: “Trauma changes everyone no matter what sort of trauma it is. Lauren is not the same girl who left. She is a completely different person and people are gonna see a clear change with her coming back.”
