How Bozoma “Transformed” Her Holiday Traditions with Her Daughter After Loss (VIDEO)
RHOBH's Bozoma Saint John is showing off her unique family tradition years after her husband's passing.
Bozoma Saint John thinks the holiday season is “bittersweet” without her late husband, Peter Saint John, who passed away in 2013. But, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills newcomer has found a way to celebrate the holidays with her daughter, Lael Saint John, that makes them “happy to celebrate.”
Boz took to her Instagram feed earlier this month, where she posted an Instagram Reel explaining how they spend the holidays every year — by centering Christmas around a specific theme. “It’s time for our annual tradition,” Boz wrote over the reel, featuring her and her daughter dancing in front of a Christmas tree. “We’ve transformed what was sad into happy memories,” she wrote.
In the video, Boz explained that this tradition started in 2013 when her husband passed away just two weeks before Christmas after a cancer diagnosis. At the time, Lael was just four years old. “On Christmas Eve, I dragged myself out of our grief and took Lael to get a tree and to tell Santa our wish to be anywhere away from the sadness,” she explained.
“I decided that we would grant our own wish and we could go anywhere in the world and make our home our destination,” she continued. Boz then proceeded to show the different “destinations” she and Lael have gone to over the years, by decorating their Christmas tree with different themed ornaments.
Together they have “traveled” to Hello Kitty Land, Heaven, Marina del Rey, Morocco, Hawaii, Paris, China, Egypt, New York City, and the North Pole. She added, “And even though it’s still bittersweet, this has become the most wonderful time of the year.

This year, Boz and Lael decided to “go” to Brazil, likely inspired by their trip for Lael’s birthday this past May (more on that later). Boz continued in the video, revealing that they first put up their “traditional ornaments”, before putting up their new decor. This year, Boz and Lael decided to decorate the tree with yellow and green feather boas, a number of colorful ornaments, and tinsel, before topping the tree off with their angel.
“For anyone feeling bittersweet about the holidays, we feel it too,” Boz wrote in the caption of the post. “And we’ve created a tradition that makes us happy to celebrate. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours from our ‘Brazil’ celebration!”

Inside Bozoma Saint John’s vacation to Brazil with her daughter
Boz and Lael actually traveled to Brazil in May for her teen daughter’s 15th birthday. The mother-daughter duo visited the Christ the Redeemer statue and got to take in the views of Rio de Janeiro, explore the Tijuca forest, and sunbathe on the shores of Rio in matching bikinis.
“And just like that, Year 15 of Lael’s birthday trip is done!” Boz wrote in the caption of an Instagram post, posted to her account on June 2. “MUITO OBRIGADO [thank you very much], RIO DE JANEIRO!!!!”
