Home and Away cast and crew rocked as colleague given stage four cancer diagnosis

Bruce Murray, who has been a key grip on the Australian soap for several years, has been diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer according to a GoFundMe page

The cast and crew of Home and Away are reeling after learning that a cherished colleague has been diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer. The disease has aggressively spread to key areas, including the ribs, spine, collarbone, sacrum, and hips. To support him and his family, a GoFundMe page has been launched, rallying friends and fans alike to contribute during this challenging time.

A heartfelt statement on the fundraiser reads: “Our beloved friend has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer, which has unfortunately entered the bloodstream, forming multiple cancers in his bones. He will begin radiation therapy on critical areas and will soon start chemotherapy and immunotherapy. It’s a long journey, but we are hopeful and confident in his strength.”

Donations have already surpassed the original target of $10,000 AUD, with contributions exceeding $17,000 AUD from 94 generous donors. One notable donation came from Nic and Lara Roberts-Frolchenko, who contributed $1,000.

A photo shared on the fundraiser shows the colleague smiling and holding up peace signs while floating on a unicorn-shaped inflatable, exemplifying his resilient spirit despite the diagnosis.

With over two decades of experience in the film and television industry, he has worked on numerous shows, including Home and Away, Breakers, All Saints, and Good News Week. His role as a key grip involves managing camera positioning and equipment, making him an integral part of the production team.

According to the NHS, symptoms of oesophageal cancer include difficulty swallowing, persistent heartburn, unintended weight loss, and discomfort in the chest or upper abdomen. Fans and colleagues continue to offer their support, hoping for a positive outcome in the fight ahead.
