Tane’s Journey: Confronting Grief and Finding Purpose Through Art
Tane is trying to jump right back into work, life and everything after the grim news of Felicity’s fate, but it seems to be doing him more harm than good. While at Salt, images of Felicity’s last few moments of consciousness flood Tane’s mind.
Tane excuses himself and heads to the balcony, with grief and fury overwhelming him. Harper, concerned, gently asks Tane if he’s considered grief counselling, but Tane brushes it off.
Things only get worse, however, as memories of moments with Felicity haunt Tane everywhere he goes. A particularly intense memory of Felicity confessing her love for him by the lighthouse interrupts his conversation with Perri, who’s confused and hurt. Without a clear explanation, Perri blames himself. Didn’t Tane promise he was going to be there for him, giving him his complete, undivided attention?
Harper decides enough is enough and tells Perri the truth: Felicity was the love of Tane’s life. Having lost his own mother, Perri tells Tane he understands the situation he’s in. The younger boy gives his own mentor some sage advice: he needs to say goodbye, otherwise he’ll regret it.
Meanwhile, Mali proudly shows Kirby his finished painting and it’s incredible. He thanks Kirby for pushing him out of his comfort zone, but Kirby’s not done yet. She tells her friend that she has found an art competition that’s currently looking for submissions, and the grand prize is $15,000.
Kirby has even taken the initiative and filled in most of the entry form for him. However, Mali is less than enthusiastic. He rattles off a whole bunch of reasons against entering: it’s not his thing; he’s not in this for the money, they’ve just lost a dear friend and it’s the wrong time to try winning a prize.
