Coronation Street proposal cancelled in early ITVX release after unexpected setback

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Carla Connor’s (Alison King) well laid plans to propose to girlfriend Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) were put on hold in tonight’s Coronation Street after a close call.
The factory boss left Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) thrilled when she announced her plans to ask Lisa to marry her earlier this week, but he seemed disappointed when Carla explained that she wasn’t going to make it a big thing.
His pointed comments inspired Carla to do something special, and she headed to the Rovers to enlist Glenda Shuttleworth’s (Jodie Prenger) help.
Glenda could hardly contain her excitement as Carla explained her proposal plan and asked the barmaid to slip the engagement ring into Lisa’s glass of champagne.
Of course, she agreed, and Carla moved on to stage two of her plan: Getting Lisa to the Rovers.

It was harder than she expected to lure Lisa away from work, but eventually the detective gave in and agreed to meet her at the pub.
Carla was clearly nervous about the upcoming proposal, and when Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) sat herself at their table to discuss her own upcoming nuptials, Carla was clearly on edge.
Debbie was keen to get opinions on her wedding invitations, and Lisa was happy to share, also revealing that Debbie had the same wedding scrapbook as Lisa’s late wife Becky.
As they discussed Lisa’s previous marriage, Debbie asked how Becky proposed, and the answer caught Carla completely off-guard.
As Glenda emerged from the back room with two champagne flutes in hand, Lisa told Debbie how Becky had dropped the engagement ring into Lisa’s champagne glass.

Panicking, Carla pulled the plug on her proposal and sent Glenda away, with Lisa none the wiser.
Later, Carla lamented to Ryan that she felt as though she had had her thunder stolen by a dead woman after the unexpected setback of Lisa’s revelation that Becky had proposed in the same way Carla had planned.
Comforting her, Ryan pointed out that it was a tacky way to propose anyway, and she could do better than Googling the best ways to pop the question.
This isn’t the first time the couple have had a botched proposal, with Lisa having already asked Carla to marry her this year.

Lisa’s proposal came during a time of turmoil for her, as she struggled to deal with Craig Tinker’s death and the memories it stirred up surrounding Becky’s murder.
As she reflected on how short life is, Lisa asked Carla to marry her, and was disappointed when she turned her down.
However, Carla was quick to explain that it wouldn’t be a no forever, it was just the wrong time given everything that had happened.
With two failed proposal attempts between them, will Carla and Lisa ever get engaged? Who will finally be the one to pop the question, and how?
