Coronation Street Shaken: Jenny Leaves the Rovers Return – Is Sally Ann Matthews’ 10-Year Journey Ending in Tears?

Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews has spoken about her exit from the ITV soap.
A few days ago, Sally took to her Instagram to confirm her departure as Jenny Connor, who she has played on and off since 1986.
Alongside a picture of her character, she wrote: ‘I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much!
‘It’s time though to play those parts I always hoped I would when I’d “grown up.” Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter.’
Now, Sally has opened up about her upcoming departure. In a new interview, she reflects on the dramatic life Jenny has led while living in Weatherfield, and believes it’s time her character had a little bit of a rest!
‘After being held hostage four times, losing the love of her life every October for three years on the trot, I think Jenny has been through enough! I had the best time creating a character that could be absolutely bonkers and over the top, to sensitive and vulnerable’.

She added in her interview with Bolton News: ‘There aren’t many jobs where you get to play a wide range of emotions – often in the same scene! We have the best crew in the business, and at Trafford Wharf Road, you laugh from the minute you walk in the building.’
Sally smiled: ‘There are so many highlights. I absolutely loved working with Charlotte Jordan, but I think my most standout days were filming the sinkhole scenes with Richard Hawley [Johnny Connor].
‘I’ve worked away from home for almost 11 years, so having time in the garden with my dog and family is a priority right now! I’ve been very fortunate in my career to work across all mediums and hopefully that will continue!’.
In 2015, after a small break away from the cobbles, the character returned and went straight into a disastrous relationship with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), before taking on a more permanent stint the following year.
Jenny has been central to the programme for quite some time, kicking off when she lost her husband Johnny in a freak drowning accident in a sewer system.
Former step-daughter Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) would later arrive and, in more recent months, convince her to use stolen money from the Underworld factory to buy back the Rovers Return.
