Coronation Street Star Peter Ash Lands Blockbuster Role After Shocking Soap Exit
Coronation Street’s Peter Ash is set to leave the soap opera after his character Paul Foreman was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with the actor now revealing his future plans.
Peter Ash is set to bid farewell to Coronation Street after six impactful years on the show. The actor, who has recently shared insights into a special episode highlighting his character’s Motor Neurone Disease (MND) diagnosis, first appeared in Weatherfield in 2018 as Paul Foreman, a former cellmate of David Platt from their time at Highfield Prison. Paul’s storyline quickly evolved, making him a series regular and a central figure in one of the show’s historic moments: the first same-sex wedding, where Paul married his on-screen husband, Billy Mayhew, played by Daniel Brocklebank, marking a significant milestone over 60 years after the show’s debut.
Paul’s journey has been marked by heartache, particularly following his MND diagnosis, which has deeply affected those closest to him. After initially keeping his condition a secret, Paul eventually opened up to his loved ones, leading to some of the show’s most emotional scenes.
Recently, Coronation Street aired a powerful, character-driven episode focused entirely on a day in Paul’s life from his own perspective. Peter Ash’s portrayal of Paul’s struggle with MND has earned him significant acclaim, including the Radio Times Soap Award for Best Storyline.
As Paul’s storyline nears its poignant conclusion, Peter Ash has hinted at his future acting endeavors. In a joint announcement with Anton Benson Productions on July 25, it was revealed that Peter would be transitioning from the iconic Corrie cobbles to the stage. He is set to star in the upcoming pantomime production of Aladdin.
