Eileen Grimshaw(Sue Cleaver), who has just lost her half-sister Julie Carp, fears she could be accused of her murder as she’s set to depart the show after spending 25 years on the cobbles.

Fans bid farewell to beloved character Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) on Monday night (5th May) after she lost her battle with terminal cancer. Julie returned to Weatherfield earlier this year and was reunited with her half-sister Eileen and nephew Todd after almost a decade-long absence from the show.

Unbeknownst to Eileen at the time, this would be the last day the sisters spent together. The pair travelled to a lakeside, sharing stories and memories. Instructed by Julie, Eileen briefly slipped away to get the pair a brew, but when she returned, she found Julie had passed. Paramedics then confirmed her death, noting the presence of a DNR (Do not resuscitate) order.

During her final day, Julie recorded a heartfelt video talking about the importance of love and went as far as to advise Eileen that it could be time to leave George.

When watching the videos with his mum, Eileen, a suspicious Todd questions whether Julie took her own life as he struggles to come to terms with the timing of her passing and her goodbye videos.

In the coming episodes, Brian, still reeling from Julie’s passing, offers to return her pain meds to the hospital, but he’s shocked to find both Julie’s and Eileen’s painkillers missing. Brian is quick to jump to conclusions that Julie overdosed, and Eileen might have been complicit.

A distraught Eileen is then questioned by police about whether or not she assisted her sister’s death.

The results of Julie’s autopsy are revealed by Kit. He reveals that painkillers prescribed to Eileen were found in Julie’s system.

A devastated Eileen feels she can barely grieve her recently deceased sister because of the fear of being wrongly accused of murder looming over her.

It was confirmed at the start of the year that the beloved Eileen would be saying goodbye to Weatherfield, but fans are now speculating whether that will be because she’s behind bars…
