Calum Lill Reveals Shocking Future for Joel Deering: Brace for a Dark Finale in Coronation Street
Joel Deering has been going to extreme lengths to cover up his wrongdoings in Coronation Street, but the worst is still to come, as actor Calum Lill has revealed.
In upcoming scenes, it seems that Joel’s fiancée, Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), is getting closer to uncovering the truth when she notices a notification on his laptop asking him to rate his experience at Belfast airport.
Naturally, Dee-Dee questions him about it, but Joel manages to cover by explaining that he was supposed to travel for work before the trip was canceled.
“The great thing is you have two people who, for their job, interrogate, defend, and deflect, going up against each other,” actor Calum explained. “Dee-Dee cross-examines him, he’s coming up with excuses and deflecting, creating plausible stories, and trying to direct her away. It’s interesting to watch; they are both very good at getting answers. It’s a battle of wits and expertise.”
Viewers know that Joel promised to send Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) to Ireland to prevent her from revealing that he was behind her near-fatal attack. However, it became apparent that he never intended her to make it that far when he drugged her to induce early labor for their son.
Things take a darker turn when Dee-Dee gives Joel’s ex-wife Emily a charm for Maeve’s bracelet, only to discover that Emily has never had such a bracelet. Dee-Dee’s suspicions grow as Emily warns her to be careful, noticing that Joel is still paying rent on his old flat. Dee-Dee quickly finds the keys in Joel’s open briefcase and heads to the flat to investigate.
Inside, she begins searching through the cupboards for evidence of an affair – but will she uncover more than she anticipated?
As Dee-Dee gets closer to the truth, Calum teases just how far Joel is willing to go to keep his secret. “Obviously, I can’t say how far, but it’s further than I thought he would go. When I read it, I was scared to even play it because it was that dark! He’ll go to any lengths he needs to.”
