Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ icon’s return 36 years after debut to ‘save Sean’
Coronation Street enthusiasts are speculating that a beloved character may return to rescue Sean Tully from the clutches of villain Mick Michaelis. Sean, portrayed by Antony Cotton, has been a staple on the soap since his introduction in 2003 and has become a fan favourite. The Rovers Return barman has been central to numerous major plotlines, from a series of unsuccessful love affairs to becoming father to Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne). Recently, the storyline took a dark turn when newcomer Mick (Joe Layton) viciously assaulted Sean.
As fans will remember, Sean’s son Liam is currently in a Secure Training Centre following his role in Mason Radcliffe’s (Luca Toolan) death, where he is being tormented by bully Brody (Ryan Mulvey). In a shocking twist, it was revealed that Brody is actually the son of Mick and Lou (Farrel Hegarty).

After Sean reported Brody’s behaviour, Mick vowed to ‘deal with’ Sean, leading to the brutal attack. Although Sean initially reported the assault to the police, he later retracted his statement after his friend Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) was threatened by Mick.
Now, as Mick’s reign of terror unfolds on screen, viewers are predicting that a former character could return to put an end to his tyranny.

Coronation Street enthusiasts have taken to a dedicated Facebook fan page to air their views, with one viewer opining: “Sooner Mick and Lou leave the better!” Anticipating the comeback of a Weatherfield icon, another fan wrote: “He’s vile, they need to get Liz McD back she wouldn’t stand for any of this!” A third chimed in with a resounding: “Definitely!”
Soap veteran Liz McDonald, portrayed by Beverley Callard, first graced the cobbles in 1989. Known for her close friendship with Sean and her tenure as the landlady of the Rovers Return Inn, Liz left an indelible mark on the show before her departure in 2020.
