This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) received devastating news in Coronation Street this week when she attended an urgent appointment with a doctor.

Having booked the appointment assuming that her symptoms were a result of the menopause, Debbie was floored when the doctor explained that she may have young-onset dementia.

He referred her for further tests with a neurologist, and urged her not to panic until she got an official diagnosis.

He also requested that she keep partner Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) in the loop – something she has been reluctant to do.

In tonight’s episode, things took another devastating turn when Debbie made an enormous decision.

Viewers will know that Ronnie has been planning on proposing to Debbie for a while, and after hearing from Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) that he’d let the secret slip to Debbie, Ronnie rushed to the Chariot Square Hotel to ask her to marry him properly.

However, when Ronnie mentioned Tim’s mishap, Debbie had no idea what he was talking about.

It soon dawned on her when Ronnie got down on one knee, and she was very speedy with her reaction.

It was a resounding no.

Ronnie was obviously crestfallen, but Debbie was quick to explain that she still loved him, but didn’t want to get married.

As Ronnie reluctantly told her that she didn’t owe him an explanation, Debbie revealed that she did, but that this wasn’t an appropriate place to have that discussion.

Their conversation was interrupted when Debbie received a phone call, and the opportunity to tell Ronnie about her potential diagnosis passed.

Later on, Debbie took a huge step when she called to book her appointment at the memory clinic.

Though she tried to brush it off with humour, it was clear that she was worried about the tests and the potential outcome.

Will Debbie tell her family what’s going on before she goes to the memory clinic, or will she continue to keep it a secret?
