Coronation Street has revealed how it will resolve Dee-Dee Bailey’s big cliffhanger, following a traumatic episode which ended with her life on the line.
In tonight’s episode, Dee-Dee visited Lauren Bolton at the hospital, reassuring her that Frankie’s stem cell transplant would be a success.
As Dee-Dee tried to talk to Lauren, she was overcome by pain. After being given a hospital bed, Dee-Dee was approached by a midwife who mixed her up with another patient.
After describing her pain, a judgemental midwife told Dee-Dee to go home and rest and to use a scented candle.
Back at her flat, Dee-Dee’s waters broke, and she returned to the maternity unit, wracked in pain. Dee-Dee’s father Ed attempted to find someone who could help.
When a midwife walked past, she said: “She looks like a very strong woman to me, women like you are built for this.” This left Ed in shock at the inappropriate comment.
After a doctor took Dee-Dee’s blood pressure, he confirmed she had pre-eclampsia and the baby needed to come out straight away. Dee-Dee was rushed off for an emergency delivery.
Following an emergency C-section, Dee-Dee’s baby was born. James picked up the baby girl while Dee-Dee looked on, heartbroken at the prospect of giving her brother her baby.
Later, a new midwife on shift, who called Dee-Dee “aggressive” and dismissed her worries, pulled back Dee-Dee’s sheets to reveal a pool of blood. She hit the emergency button, and Dee-Dee was rushed off to surgery again.
While waiting for news about Dee-Dee, Lauren told Ed and Michael Bailey that Frankie’s operation was a success, and they told her about Dee-Dee.
Meanwhile, James lost his temper with a passing doctor, telling them that if his sister died, it would be the fault of the hospital. “If she dies, this is on you lot,” he said as the episode ended.
While the episode ended with Dee-Dee’s fate uncertain, we do know that the show previously revealed that Dee-Dee will have to undergo a hysterectomy as a result of her complications.
Given the news that she can no longer have children, Dee-Dee will face the tough decision of whether to still give her new baby away to her brother James and his boyfriend Danny.
