Coronation Street Lisa Swain star dealt ‘devastating low’ as fans in disbelief after rare personal update

Vicky Myers is renowned for her role in Coronation Street

Vicky Myers has quickly become a Coronation Street fan favourite since she become a series regular on the Cobbles. The soap star is renowned for her role as DS Lisa Swain in Weatherfield.

The fictional police officer has been at the heart of the action in the past 12 months as she was central in the long-running Joel Deering saga before the villain was killed by Lauren Bolton. Lisa’s Swain’s daughter, Betsy, has been introduced to the show and she has also started a relationship with Carla Connor.

Fans are heavily invested in the romance storyline and it seemed as though the couple were heading for a settled time in Weatherfield. However, it is never so simple in the world of soaps and Carla’s health has recently taken a turn and she has since been told she needs a kidney transplant.

The character, played by Alison King, has had no other choice but to accept help from her villainous brother, who has claimed to be a changed person. Lisa has been on hand to try and support her partner through this difficult time as her importance to the soap is showing no signs of waning.

Away from the screen, it has also been a big week for the actor as she revealed she turned 49. In a candid post, she revealed how she has been dealt with a “devastating low” over the past 12 months.

She said: “Another trip around the sun. Thank you for sharing it with me. I had the most wonderful day yesterday, in a very special place that holds so many magical memories for me.

“Last year saw the most exhilarating and unexpected highs and an absolutely devastating low which shocked us to the core. It’s all part of the great tapestry of life and we keep on moving, even if it’s just one tiny step at a time.

“Thank you for the countless messages, edits, reels, your generosity and for your deeply appreciated support. But most of all, thank you for your love and kindness!! Here’s to the next trip.”

The soap star doesn’t always share updates from her life away from the screen on Instagram. However, she offered rare insight towards the end of 2023 when she issued a heartfelt message to commemorate her daughter’s 27th birthday.

Vicky said: “Happy 27th Birthday. Little Miss Myers/Mrs. Henderson. Oh how I love you.” Her co-stars took to the comments with messages of support after the update.

Sally Carman said: “Happy, happy birthday Meg” Friend Chloe said: “I can’t cope that your daughter is 27.” Christopher added: “How can that be your daughter?? 27??? Impossible.”

In an interview with our sister site, Mirror Online, Vicky has previously opened on the breakdown of her marriage. She said it was a difficult period in her life as she was also rocked by the news she had cancer.

She received her diagnosis by chance when she was taking her nephew for a medical check up. She said: “As we turned to leave, the doctor said, ‘Can I have a look at that mark on your leg?’ Within five days I was in hospital.

“I was wearing three-quarter length combat trousers that day. You can roll them up into shorts, which I did in the car just before the appointment, because it was a really hot June day. It’s quite incredible to think that if it had been a miserable day the doctor would never have seen the little dark mark on my calf. I definitely had an angel watching over me that day.”

Doctors discovered it was skin cancer and her ex helped her look after Meghan as she recovered from reconstructive surgery. Vicky fell out of love with acting after her treatment and took a job at a casting agency.

However, she knew she always wanted to return to the profession and is proud she has worked her way to become an important member of the Corrie cast. She said: “I don’t know if it’s my previous medical history, but I am so proud to be here and just to be living each day to the full. When my husband and I split up, I was quite down, bitter and vengeful, and when I was told I had [cancer], I remember thinking, ‘If this is it for me, I’ve missed out on all this time with my daughter and I haven’t really been the best person that I wanted to be.’

“The diagnosis re-centred me and made me focus on what is really important and what makes me happy. Now, every time I go into work and see the Coronation Street sign, it’s quite overwhelming.”

Vicky is now integral to the cast and has formed a close bond with her co-stars, including, Sydney Martin, who plays onscreen daughter, Betsy. After her birthday post this week, Sydney took the comments and said: “Super proud of you.” Vicky shot back: “Love you.”
