Kate Brooks, producer of Coronation Street, said of the storyline: ‘It’s vitally important to shine a light on this topic, and really show the impact knife crime has on not only the victim and their loved ones, but also the wider community.
‘With the alarming statistics, we want to do anything we can as a show to combat this violent endemic.
After watching this harrowing, but important story unfold, if one person thinks twice about bringing a knife to a fight, then we’ve achieved our aim to raise awareness.’
The shocking scenes see Mason come to the conclusion his brothers are more dangerous than he could ever have realised after Lisa, played by Vicky Myers, shows him photos taken at the scene of her late partner Becky’s murder.
In a difficult conversation she explains Matty and Logan ere behind her brutal death, which leaves Mason determined to take them down once and for all.
After searching their flat and finding some key evidence which he hands over to the police, his brothers are finally pulled in for questioning.
But after discovering who betrayed them, the brothers set out on revenge and attack Mason in a children’s play area.

Abi Webster (Sally Carman) was first on the scene and discovered the terrified Mason and attempted to stop the bleedingas they waited for the ambulance.
To ensure the storyline is as accurate and sensitively handled a possible, the soap has been working with The Ben Kinsella Trust.
The knife crime prevention charity was started in 2008 after the brutal murder of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella.
Patrick Green, CEO of The Ben Kinsella Trust, told the publication: ‘This impactful Coronation Street storyline vividly highlights the devastating consequences of knife crime.
‘We applaud the show for their commitment to working closely with us to accurately depict this reality.
‘This storyline aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of knife crime.’
Luca Toolan, who plays Mason added that it was an honour to act out such a harrowing storyline.
He explained that as both a fan of the show and an integral character he understood the importance of the power of the soap and hoped it might encourage people to think careful and put away dangerous knives.
