Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd, known for his role as David Platt, has admitted that he doesn’t plan to keep in touch with Helen Worth.

Helen played his on-screen mother Gail Platt, but has since announced her departure from the soap after 50 years, saying she’d been “truly blessed” to have been given the most “incredible scripts week in week out”.

During a recent episode of the On The Sofa podcast, Shepherd confessed to his co-hosts and fellow Corrie stars Colson Smith and Ben Price that he generally doesn’t maintain contact with former co-stars

He said: “No, I usually don’t; I don’t. If the opportunity arises, and they phone me, I’ll answer”. However, Jack added: “That’s just all walks of life. I don’t ring anyone really. Who do you ring?”

The 36-year-old was then asked if he’d spoken to Helen since her exit, with the actor replying that he hadn’t. His colleagues then revealed that they had been in touch with Worth since her exit, following her character’s dramatic heart attack storyline.

In October, Gail suffered a shocking heart attack on the show, which led to a near-fatal cardiac arrest and the character being saved via a stent. Coronation Street stalwart Helen is set to bid farewell to the cobbled streets that have been her home for half a century.

Speaking about her departure in June, she shared, “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers, who were very kind and understanding.”

Born Cathryn Helen Wigglesworth and hailing from Morecambe, Lancashire, Helen embarked on her illustrious Corrie career just three years following her mother’s tragic hit-and-run death.

Joining the cast in 1974, Helen has also graced other TV shows such as ‘Doctor Who’s ‘Colony in Space’ and ‘The Doctors’, earning herself recognition for her contributions to drama, including an MBE presented by the Prince of Wales, reports the Liverpool Echo.
