Coronation Street icon’s confession about TV legend is truly something else
Coronation Street icon Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) had us all blushing in tonight’s episode after an off-hand comment about her favourite TV personality.
Every Corrie fan knows that Mary adores TV presenter Ben Shephard, and recent scenes saw her namecheck him once more.
Following dramatic scenes that saw Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) dump Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) after a botched proposal, Mary revealed that she was lost for words.
As she pointed out how rare that was, she recalled that the last time she had been speechless was when Ben Shephard was presenting Good Morning Britain, and was trying to stroke a cat that got away from him.
‘He said, “I’m not a professional pussy holder.” Oh, Ben…’ She recalled.
Dear lord.
Viewers first learnt about Mary’s love of the Tipping Point star in 2020, when she showed off a blanket she owned that was covered in his face.
Last Valentine’s Day, she revealed that she planned to spend it cuddling up to her Ben Shephard pillow, after having previously decided that she wanted a Ben Shephard themed funeral.

We despair.
Ben Shephard himself has proved a good sport, previously revealing that his phone always blows up after a mention on the ITV soap.
‘Mary is particularly fond of me I think,’ he summarised.
In a later discussion, he added: ‘The lovely Patti Clare plays Mary so brilliantly, it’s really flattering’.
