ITV Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ Betsy Swain’s real mum – and she’s a cobbles icon
Coronation Street fans are convinced they've worked out who Betsy Swain's real mother is - and it's not DS Lisa Swain.
The character, portrayed by Sydney Martin, arrived on the scene earlier this year as the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). It was disclosed that Lisa’s wife and Betsy’s mother, Becky, had tragically passed away while on duty, leading to a strained relationship between Betsy and Lisa.
Betsy quickly became embroiled in a whirlwind of drama. She found herself entangled with the sinister solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), who she blackmailed before he threatened her, leaving her terrified.
Viewers will remember Joel as the culprit behind the grooming and abuse of young girls, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) who disappeared but later returned, revealing Joel’s ‘true’ nature to the Weatherfield community.
However, after being sentenced to prison for his appalling crimes, Joel mysteriously disappeared from Weatherfield last week. This week, the police, led by Lisa Swain, concluded that Joel had taken his own life, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Moreover, during Monday’s episode (October 7), Lisa discovered the disturbing messages exchanged between Betsy and Joel, with Joel threatening to end the teenager’s life. However, viewers are now convinced that neither Lisa Swain nor Becky are Betsy’s biological mothers.
In an unexpected twist, fans speculate that her real mother could be a former beloved character from the cobbles.
Coronation Street fans are rife with speculation after a flurry of online exchanges hinted that DS Swain might be Betsy’s mum. One fan suggested on a Corrie Facebook group, “Is DS Swain Betsy’s biological mum.”
