Bethany’s heart-wrenching return scenes revealed as she makes sad admission in Coronation Street
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) makes her return to Coronation Street in upcoming episodes, but since she left Weatherfield her life has changed completely.
Bethany set off for a copy-writing job for a cosmetic surgery company in Turkey, but soon her family were alerted to the news that she was in hospital, in intensive care.
It transpired that she’d taken the step of having liposuction surgery while she was there and this had gone wrong.
The botched surgery led to sepsis and it was touch-and-go for a while as she struggled to beat the infection. Now she has been told that she’ll have to have a stoma bag for the rest of her life.
Her travel insurance didn’t cover any of this, as she hadn’t declared the surgery to the insurer, so back in Weatherfield her family are left scrabbling for the money to bring her home.
A worried Gail (Helen Worth) decides to take out a bridging loan to pay for her granddaughter’s Medevac flight back to the UK, and it looks as though she’ll have to sell her house to cover it.
There’s some soul searching from Daniel (Rob Mallard), as he worries about why Bethany’s body image was so low that she even considered the surgery in the first place. He can’t help thinking that he’s partly to blame, as Bethany was insecure about him possibly rekindling his relationship with Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).
When Bethany is finally brought back to a local hospital Daniel heads to see her, but Sarah (Tina O’Brien) prevents him from seeing her daughter.
Eventually Bethany agrees to see Daniel, but he finds her in very low spirits. Heartbreakingly she tells him that she’s no longer the person she once was and her life has changed forever. She insists he should forget about her and that he’d be better off with Daisy.
We’ve previously seen Daniel telling Daisy that it’s Bethany he loves and wants to be with. Will he stand by those words? And will Bethany believe him?
