Past Coronation Street character returns ahead of sad loss – but he’s hiding something
Coronation Street will air the return of a past character next week on the ITV soap as fans prepare to lose a show legend, but spoilers hint there's a secret being kept
Coronation Street airs a character’s comeback next week after years offscreen, but it seems they’re hiding something about their return.
It had been announced recently that John Thomson would be reprising his role as Jesse Chadwick after almost 15 years away. Jesse was last on the show in 2010 and is the ex of Eileen Grimshaw.
But now Jesse is making a comeback as part of Gail Platt’s exit storyline, following actress Helen Worth quitting the role after 50 years. There’s a twist next week when he heads to Weatherfield amid heartbreak for the Platts.
It seems he could be hiding something though, as it’s teased he has a reason for being there he’s yet to disclose. Jesse shocks both Gail and Eileen next week with his arrival, with him claiming to be checking in on Gail.
Wanting to check she was okay amid her granddaughter Bethany Platt’s hospital dash, Gail is surprised to see him. She soon ushers him home, and it’s revealed the pair had met years earlier while Gail was in Thailand.
Gail’s family are baffled by Jesse’s sudden arrival, unsure of his reasons. It seems Gail’s daughter-in-law Shona is won over though, and she’s soon telling David and Sarah to hear Jesse out.

It seems the pair are suspicious of him, but do they have a right to be? It seems he’s keeping tabs on them given he has seen Sarah and Adam Barlow’s wedding photos.
It’s not specified when he and Gail met and if they stayed in contact. But spoilers soon tease there’s more to his arrival as he makes a comment to Steve McDonald.
The pair go for a pint to catch up, with him knowing Steve during his last stay in Weatherfield. As he opens up on why he’s really there, what will he reveal and is he hiding something huge?
Fans will no doubt want no drama for Gail ahead of her exit later this year. Helen revealed in a statement earlier this year: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding. I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
