Shocking Exit: Major Coronation Street Star Quits After Just One Year – New Role Revealed!

Joel Deering (Calum Lill) in the ginnel in Coronation Street

Calum Lill, known for his role as the sinister solicitor Joel Deering in Coronation Street, is set to make a dramatic exit from the cobbles in the coming months. Joel, who first appeared on the ITV soap last September, has kept viewers on edge with his devious and dark behavior.

It wasn’t until May that his true colors were revealed, showcasing his abusive nature towards Lauren Bolton (played by Cait Fitton). In a shocking turn of events, Joel brutally attacked Lauren with a chair leg, forcing her into hiding for several months. The plot thickened when Lauren discovered she was pregnant with his child, leading Joel to mix labor-inducing drugs into her soup in a sinister attempt to cause early labor and kill the unborn child.

Despite his attempts, Lauren gave birth to a baby girl, Frankie, who survived. Now, Joel is scheming to send Lauren to Northern Ireland to continue evading justice. However, in upcoming scenes, his fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) grows suspicious after finding an email asking Joel to rate his experience at Belfast Airport.

Dee-Dee’s suspicions are further fueled when Joel’s ex-wife Emily (Ellena Vincent) warns her not to trust him, denying that he ever bought a charm bracelet for their daughter Maeve, despite Joel insisting he spent £300 on it. As Dee-Dee digs deeper, she discovers Lauren’s plan to move across the water. Has she finally uncovered Joel’s sinister plot?

According to Metro.co.uk, Calum Lill only signed on for this specific storyline and has previously hinted at Joel’s inevitable downfall. “I hope Joel’s very good at hiding because I really enjoy coming to work,” Lill shared. “But for soap justice, I know that at some point he’s going to be found out.”

Lill added, “I’m very excited to get to the end of the story, but it will be very bittersweet because it’s the most incredible place to work.”

After his departure from Coronation Street, Lill is set to take on a new role as Fleshcreep in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre at the end of the year. A source told The Sun, “Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year, but he always knew it would be for a fixed term. He’s been great playing Joel, but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance, and Joel’s is coming very soon.”

The source added, “He’s already landed his first job after the show, and he’ll be finished in time to start rehearsals for that. But on-screen, Joel has no idea what’s coming for him as his dark secrets start to be exposed.”
