Flau’jae Johnson Slams Media for Stirring Up ‘Lame’ Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese Rivalry!
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese have created one of the biggest rivalries in women’s basketball. It all started during the 2023 NCAAW national championship between the Iowa Hawkeyes and LSU Tigers, where Reese claimed the title in dramatic fashion.
The rivalry has continued into the WNBA, with the three matchups between the Fever and Sky this season being among the most exciting games to watch. However, Flau’jae Johnson, who played with Reese for two seasons at LSU, believes that the media has unnecessarily pitted the two players against each other for a “lame” reason.
In a recent interview on “The Bootleg Kev Podcast,” Johnson discussed the truth behind the rivalry between Clark and Reese.
“I think it’s mostly the fans who come up with stories and make stuff up in their heads,” Johnson said. “They really think we all hate each other, but that’s far from the truth. I’m a fan of both Angel and Caitlin.”
Johnson has publicly shared her good relationships with both Clark and Reese. At the WNBA All-Star game, Johnson was in attendance and had friendly interactions with both players.
“Everyone thinks it was such a big rivalry, but it really wasn’t,” Johnson added. “It was the media that made it into what it was. Then the fans turned it into a black-and-white issue, which is lame. But it was never like that. It was all the media.”
Since the 2023 national championship, Clark and Reese have faced each other four times. Clark got her revenge by winning three of those games after losing the title, but Reese claimed victory in their most recent encounter.
The two stars teamed up for the first time in the 2024 WNBA All-Star game, where they led Team WNBA to an upset win over Team USA. Both rookies broke All-Star game records, with Clark recording the most assists by a rookie in WNBA All-Star game history, and Reese becoming the first rookie to achieve a double-double in the same match.
Johnson is entering her third season with LSU. In the 2023-24 season, she averaged 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
