Coronation Street legend Alan Halsall recently spoke to Metro.co.uk about Tyrone’s emotional turmoil following the unexpected return of his ex-girlfriend, Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu).

Rumors had been swirling around Weatherfield that Alina was back in the country after being summoned as a witness in a human trafficking trial.

In tonight’s episode, Tyrone’s wife, Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), runs into Alina while shopping at Freshco, and it quickly becomes apparent that Alina has been hiding a significant secret—she has a son!

After overhearing Alina mention that she was staying at the Chariot Square Hotel, Fiz decided to follow her. Alina then revealed that she was planning to return to Romania the next day.

At first, Tyrone is quite dismissive of the situation, not wanting to delve into it. He’s content with how things are with Fiz, happy and settled, and doesn’t want the distraction.

Reflecting on the potential reactions from his family, Alan noted: “Hope and Ruby could definitely give him a hard time! With Cassie being new to the scene, she might want to dig deeper into the whole story about Alina. And, of course, Evelyn has an opinion about absolutely everything!”

“So, Tyrone could face pressure from all sides, and in his mind, the less said about the Alina situation, the better!”

In upcoming episodes, Cassie decides to meddle in the situation. When she notices that Streetcars has booked Alina’s airport ride, she intercepts by driving her to No. 9 Coronation Street instead. Alina is furious about being duped, but how will Fiz react to having the woman who once nearly destroyed her relationship back in her home?

“As an actor, I’d like to think that now Tyrone and Fiz are together, finally married, and have this lovely, multigenerational family, they’re unbreakable,” Alan shared. “But I also understand that this is a soap, and in that world, nothing is ever certain. So, we’ll see.”

Alan also quickly dismissed comparisons to the iconic Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn), who served as parental figures to Tyrone.

“Growing up, Jack and Vera were like Mr. and Mrs. Coronation Street to me,” he explained. “They were my era. I loved everything about those two characters and was fortunate enough to work with them for years, so that’s something I like to shy away from.”

“There’s nothing wrong with being the Tyrone and Fiz! Jack and Vera were the first Jack and Vera, but I don’t think there’ll ever be another.”
