Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is left stunned by a new proposal from cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) in next week’s episodes of Coronation Street.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Leanne has been under Rowan’s influence for months. Even the revelation that he is a former convict hasn’t shaken her belief in him.
Rowan has continued to invade her life, spreading harmful ideologies and convincing Leanne to distance herself emotionally from her sister Toyah (Georgia Taylor), who is battling ovarian cancer. Rowan’s cronies have also been stalking Toyah and Leanne’s fiancé, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), who have been having an affair. Rowan caught them kissing and has used photos of them to blackmail Leanne.
Recently, Rowan asked Leanne to invest £40,000 in a dubious resource centre for his ‘Institute’. When Leanne expressed doubts about the investment, Rowan said he would discuss it with Nick. He has also encouraged Leanne to recruit Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) as his next target, sending her on one of his dubious retreats.
Amy has returned from the retreat and told Leanne that it exceeded her expectations, providing her with newfound drive for the future. Leanne supports Amy’s enthusiasm, telling her she can achieve anything.
Shortly after, Rowan arrives and Leanne asks about his ‘big news’. Rowan reveals that Willow, the cult’s leader, wants Leanne to run the new resource centre. Leanne is left speechless.
In an unexpected twist, Rowan also informs Leanne that she is expected to meet a potential investor later in the day.
