Texas man drove to Indianapolis after sending Caitlin Clark violent messages on X, court docs reveal

A Texas man, Michael Lewis, has been arrested in Indianapolis after reportedly stalking basketball star Caitlin Clark and posting threatening messages about her on the social media platform X. The case highlights a disturbing escalation in his behavior, leading authorities to take immediate action.

Court documents reveal that since December, Lewis, under the username RacerX2031, had been obsessively tagging Clark in hundreds of tweets, many of which were violent and explicitly threatening. His behavior escalated in the past week, prompting an intervention.

According to Ryan Mears, Marion County Prosecutor, the posts became more frequent and aggressive, raising significant concerns. The situation intensified when Lewis traveled from Texas to Indianapolis, where Clark was known to frequent basketball games.

Investigators tracked Lewis to the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Indianapolis after he posted from the location. He had also purchased tickets to a Butler basketball game, where Clark was expected to be, and even bragged online about sitting near the team bench.

Authorities confronted Lewis in his hotel room on January 8, questioning him about his posts. Lewis described his actions as part of an “imaginary relationship” and claimed they were jokes. Despite the warning, Lewis continued to post disturbing messages, including one referencing a visit from the FBI.

Clark, deeply affected by the situation, spoke to investigators, expressing fear and confirming she had altered her daily routines for safety. Court documents reveal the profound impact the stalking had on her, leading to her seeking protection orders.

Lewis has since been ordered to have no contact with Clark and to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Hinkle Fieldhouse. Authorities have warned that any further violations could result in additional charges.

The case underscores the importance of swift action in addressing online threats and protecting individuals from potential harm. Caitlin Clark remains safe, but the situation has left a lasting impression on her and her supporters
