Criminal Minds: Evolution star Zach Gilford is singing the praises of the medical professionals who helped him amidst an unprecedented medical episode.

On Tuesday, Gilford posted a series of three photos to his Instagram Stories showing his face become progressively more swollen. He didn’t reveal the cause behind the curious malady, but the actor did thank the doctors and nurses who aided his recovery.

The first shot shows Gilford with his the left side of his face swollen so distended that his eye is swollen shut. “Soooo yesterday was fun,” Gilford wrote on the photo. The second picture shows him with much more severe swelling now impacting his entire face, with his right eye now mostly shut as well. “Good thing we wrapped @CriminalMinds last week,” he joked.

In the third photo, Gildford’s face has returned to some semblance of normalcy. “Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff @huntingtonhospital for coaxing my face back to normalcy,” he wrote over the final image. But Gilford joked that there was “still a little ways to go” regarding his recovery.

Neither Gilford nor his representatives immediately responded to a request for comment from Men’s Journal. The actor has played serial killer Elias Volt on the Criminal Minds prequel series since it launched in 2022.
