Home and Away star shares life-altering injury after unusual accident led to agony
Home and Away Leah Patterson star Ada Nicodemou has shared the way in which she endured a life-altering injury after a rather unusual accident left her in agony
Home and Away actress Ada Nicodemou, known for playing the role of Leah Patterson, has shared how she suffers from a life-altering injury.
The 47-year-old Aussie actress has been candid on her most recent podcast episode for Bounce Forward, with her detailing how she was forced to change her exercise regime after suffering a painful injury. On the podcast episode, she could be heard chatting to personal trainer Tiffiny Hall, with Ada admitting how she was left with a herniated disc in her spine.
The herniated disc happened in an unusual and rather mundane way. Ada explained how it happened when she was sneezing. A herniated disc, also known as a slipped disc, is when a soft cushion of tissue between the bones in your spine bulges outwards, according to the NHS, which also states: “It’s painful if it presses on nerves. It usually gets better slowly with rest, gentle exercise and painkillers.”
On her podcast, Ada recalled the agonising moment, revealing: “I had an injury — now don’t laugh — about a year and a half ago I sneezed,’ she explained to podcast host Tiffiny. I woke up in the morning to go to the gym at 5am and I was in my dressing room getting changed and I perforated a disc. I was in so much pain!”
Because of her slipped disc, Ada had to have surgery, and she now suffers from a permanent life-altering symptom. Speaking on her podcast she said: “I had to have an operation, I still have a numb foot on one side and it probably will never heal properly. I think I’ve damaged a nerve.
“But it really made me rethink a lot of things I was doing because I’ve always been fit, I love to exercise, for my mental health now I’ve realised.”
Ada then went on to speak about how her injury has impacted her life and workout regime: “I was a machine, I’d spin and then box, all that sort of stuff, then I got into heavy weightlifting as well. Now, I’m like I’m never doing a deadlift again in my life. I can’t run because I will break my ankle because I have a numb foot.”
Ada is currently in a relationship with Home and Away co-star James Stewart. Ada and James have known each other since 1998 when they co-starred on the short-lived Channel Ten soap opera Breakers. And since 2016, the pair have starred on Home and Away.
