Corrie viewers are buzzing with theories about who might be behind the Platts’ house fire, and it’s not the usual suspects.

In a dramatic turn of events set to unfold next year, the streets of Weatherfield will be shaken by a devastating house fire. Locals living near the filming location were prepped for the upcoming spectacle, with warnings about potential loud bangs and special fire effects used during production.

Residents were reassured not to be alarmed by the commotion, as they were informed that the soap would be simulating a house fire, complete with an explosive scene.

An insider divulged to Metro: “The early part of the year is going to kick off the new era of Corrie with a bang pretty literally and one of the show’s core families are right at the heart of the fire storyline. With a new boss at the helm, the show isn’t pulling any punches and it’s fair to say some fan-favourite lives are on the line.”

Moreover, recent images snapped up by The Sun reveal the extent of the calamity, showing flames engulfing the Platt family home at No. 8, reports Plymouth Live. It remains unclear whether the Metcalfes’ abode, where Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine’s characters reside, will also be caught in the blaze.

Adding to the excitement, several cast members have been posting behind-the-scenes glimpses from the nocturnal filming sessions. Lucy Fallon, known for her role as Bethany Platt, shared an Instagram photo alongside Paddy Bever (Max Turner) and Julia Goulding (Shona Platt), as they huddled together in warm robes to fend off the night chill.

Sally Carman-Duttine, who portrays Abi Webster on the show, recently took to social media with a behind-the-scenes glimpse. She shared an image of heat patches and body warmers, captioning it “Night shoots”.

Speculation is rife among fans about who could be responsible for an upcoming fire on the street. A number of viewers are pointing fingers at Mason Radcliffe’s (played by Luca Toolan) rough brothers, Matty and Logan Radcliffe (portrayed by Seamus McGoff and Harry Lowbridge), but there’s another suspect on the horizon.

Coronation Street enthusiasts have been voicing their theories on a dedicated Corrie Facebook fan page, with some suspecting David Platt (Jack P Shephard) as the potential arsonist. Fans remember well how irate David became when Gail listed their home for sale months prior.

David’s recent actions, which included pilfering a substantial sum of illicit money from villain Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor), have led some to conjecture that he might set his own house ablaze for insurance money.

One viewer speculated: “I think the house fire will take place in the Platts house and that David will start the fire! ” Another suggested: “He’s doing it so Gail gets the insurance to rebuild it.” And a third hinted: “Might be an insurance job to get a payout hmm.”

Others believe that Harvey’s gang might ignite the fire as retribution. A comment read: “I think it will be an insurance job, or word gets to Damian that David stole the money and as punishment he gets someone to petrol bomb it.” Echoing this sentiment, another fan said: “I think it’s from the men in prison but Mason’s brothers get the blame.”
