Home and Away fans beg the show to bring back ‘iconic’ character: ‘She is missed’
Lyn Collingwood's Home and Away character Colleen Smart has been missed on the show, with many asking for her to come back.
Home and Away fans have taken to social media to beg producers to bring back the ‘iconic’ Colleen Smart, who Lyn Collingwood played on the Aussie soap. Lyn appeared on the show for its first two seasons and later returned as a regular before retiring in 2012.
A Facebook user shared a photo of Colleen, writing, “‘YOOHOO! It’s only me!’ Who remembers that old chook Colleen from Home and Away. A poor man’s Morag but iconic all the same…”
It seems as though many others agreed, with one user writing, “Colleen definitely should come back. Funny lady… we need a bit of humour and laughter.”
“She was so good. I wish she would come back and put a bit of spice in the show,” another said. “Come back Colleen.”
“I used to love Colleen please bring her back and her son,” a third said.
“Loved Colleen, she was the no filter lady who said it as it was 😜🤣🤣 bring her back please,” yet another wrote.
“Who could forget her!” someone else said, with another saying, “She is missed.”
Others said Lyn played the role so well that they loved to hate Colleen.
“Loved Colleen in this show she was the best character,” another said.
Who was Home and Away’s Colleen Smart?
Colleen was on the show in its early days and was usually seen trying to keep her son Lance (Peter Vroom) out of trouble. She first appeared in Episode 36 in March 1988 and then left in Episode 350 in July 1989. She went on to return for one episode in 1997, before coming back once again as a series regular in late 1999.
Colleen certainly does sound iconic, with Home and Away Soap Opera Wiki writing, “During her time on the show she discovered that she was related to the Stewarts and accidentally burned down the Bayside Diner.”
Her final scenes on the show were aired in 2013 and it looks as though Lyn’s last acting gig was in 2022 on Remember My Name, an Aussie TV show.
Where is Lyn Collingwood now?
She now enjoys living her life out of the spotlight, and has worked in research and as an editor of The Australian Encyclopaedia.
Lyn previously explained the reason for her leaving the show was due to reaching “a certain age”.
“You get to a certain age and you don’t know how much longer you’ll be around, quite frankly, and my memory is still quite good – I don’t know how long that’s going to last!” she told TV Week.
She shared her favourite onscreen moments, saying, “Years ago, some conman sold her a piece of land in Queensland and it was just a bog, and I enjoyed her being taken for a ride.
“Also, when she was a poker machine addict, but that only lasted for about five minutes. I liked the plane crash, and the abduction and being shaken up in the van – that was fun.”
