Home and Away

Shocking tragedy: (Ray Meagher knew best) Crew member’s death shocks Hollywood 😢🙏

A beloved member of the Home and Away production crew has died.

Bruce Murray, who worked as a key grip behind-the-scenes of the soap, had been battling stage 4 oesophageal cancer for more than a year before his death.

Past and present stars of the long-running Seven show took to social media to remember their cherished co-worker.

Emily Weir, who plays the character of Mackenzie in the series, included a clip of Murray joking on the Home and Away set in her tribute.

She captioned the video: ‘Love you Brucey, you beautiful thing.’

Sarah Roberts, who left the series in 2021, posted a virtual ‘scrapbook’ of Home and Away cast and crew members featuring a photo of Murray.

‘What a man, never a dull moment on the set or on the dance floor,’ Sarah wrote on her Instagram stories on Monday.

‘One of the reasons I loved going to work… couldn’t stop giggling at his jokes and his dance moves. I’ll miss you Brucey!’

The sad news of Murray’s illness first emerged in October 2023, when A Go Fund Me page was launched to help raise funds for Bruce’s family while he underwent treatment.

‘Recently our beloved, good friend Bruce Murray was diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer, which has unfortunately gone into his blood stream and formed multiple cancers on his bones – ribs, spine, collar bone, sacrum, and hips,’ his GFM page explained.

‘Bruce will be starting Radiation Therapy on the 3 most urgent bone areas – spine, ribs and hips and soon be starting a combo of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy.
