Coronation Street star teases Paul’s final scene ahead of tragic death
"It was a beautiful scene."
Coronation Street star Peter Ash has teased his character Paul Foreman’s final scene, describing it as “beautiful.”
It was recently announced that Paul’s final episode will air on September 9, which will see the character tragically pass away due to the progression of his MND (motor neurone disease).
Discussing Paul’s emotional last scene at a recent press event for the soap, Ash shared: “It was a beautiful scene. It was quite hard to not get emotional during the scene.”
He continued: “[The other cast members] are giving those beautiful goodbyes, and I’ve got to pretend to not hear it.
“And especially once he does pass, it’s that thing of trying not to breathe at all, which gets a bit tricky after a while!
“But the scene in general, it was just a beautiful way to end it. Obviously, I’m not going to give anything away apart from that, but it was great to have all my favourites there in my last scene.”
On being part of the MND storyline, the soap star said: “I’ve never been involved in something like this, such an issue-led story.
“But that makes it special, you know that you’re raising awareness for an amazing cause and doing a bit of good. As far as I’m concerned, that’s a job well done.”
Ash went on to thank Corrie producers Ian and Verity MacLeod for trusting him with the storyline, saying: “I’m just really grateful to be trusted with the story and that they allowed it to play out in its own time, there was never a sense of rushing through it.
“I was always quite surprised when I would have a meeting with Iain and he’d say, ‘Right, this is what’s happening for the next six months’.
“And I assumed I’d be gone soon. I think they covered lots of great issues within the storyline.”
