Jason Whitlock Slams Caitlin Clark: Claims She’s ‘Hurting’ Indiana Fever Despite Record-Breaking Performance!

Caitlin Clark continued breaking WNBA records on Saturday night, but Jason Whitlock claims the rookie is doing more harm than good for the Indiana Fever.

At just 22 years old, Clark became the fastest player in women’s professional basketball history to reach 500 points and 200 assists within her first three months in the WNBA, thanks to her 23 points and eight assists against the Minnesota Lynx.

However, her seven turnovers in that game raised concerns, pushing her season average to 5.6 per game—something Whitlock did not overlook.

The outspoken columnist took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to criticize the No. 1 draft pick for her costly mistakes. “They need to stop excusing Caitlin Clark’s turnovers,” Whitlock tweeted. “It’s sloppy and hurting her team.”

Whitlock wasn’t alone in pointing out Clark’s turnover issues, but many others defended the former Iowa Hawkeye, noting her contributions elsewhere on the court. Skip Bayless also weighed in on X, acknowledging Clark’s high turnover count but praising her for her exceptional passing. “Yes, Caitlin already shattered the WNBA single-season turnover record with 12 games left,” Bayless wrote. “But I forgive a lot of them because they’re often so close to being spectacular passes. Plus, she leads the league in assists and makes incredible plays.”

Despite her turnover struggles, Clark has seen steady improvement. After recording a staggering 10 turnovers in her debut game, her assist-to-turnover ratio has improved from 1.23:1 in May and June to 2.19:1 in the eight games since July.

The 22-year-old seems to set records almost weekly. On August 18, she broke the WNBA’s single-season rookie assist record, surpassing Ticha Penicheiro’s 26-year mark with 232 assists.

Before the WNBA paused for the Olympics, Clark set the league’s single-game record with 19 assists, capping off a stretch of six double-digit assist performances in seven games.

If she maintains her average of 8.3 assists per game, Clark is on pace to break Alyssa Thomas’ single-season record of 316 assists set just last year. She’s also close to shattering Rhyne Howard’s rookie record of 85 three-pointers in a season, needing just eight more to tie the mark, and 22 more to become the seventh WNBA player to hit 100 threes in a single season.

In addition to her assists, Clark is the league’s top-scoring rookie, averaging 17.8 points per game.
